Assigning the News folder to the News section

These documentation pages are no longer maintained. Please visit the new documentation site.

The "News" folder is currently assigned to the default Exponential section, which is section one. However, we wish to gain a bit more control over the content that is inside this folder. This means that we'll have to assign the folder (and its contents) to a custom section. We've already created a couple of custom sections. The following text explains how to to assign the "News" folder (and its contents) to the "News section".

  1. Bring up the administration interface.
  2. Click on the "Setup" tab.
  3. Click on "Sections" (from within the menu on the left hand side).
  4. Locate the line that says "News section".
  5. Click on the small "binder" icon (assign) which is within the "News section" line.
The "Choose section assignment" page will appear.
  6. Set the radio button to the "News" folder.
  7. Click the "Select" button.

Exponential will then assign the "News" folder and all the articles in it (also future articles that are placed there) to the "News section".

An anonymous user has incorrect permissions to view our news section. To set up the correct permissions, we perform the following steps:

  1. Click on the "Setup" tab.
  2. Click on "Roles and Policies" menu item.
  3. Chose the "Anonymous" role.
  4. In the dropdown menu on the bottom of the page: select "section".
  5. Click "Assign with limitation".
  6. Set the radio button to the "News section", and press OK.
  7. Set the radio button to the "Anonymous users", and press OK.

Every user can access the news section.

Possible solution?

Hello,

I had the same issue and could not find any solution. Then when investigating the anonymous role I came across a lead. I observed that "Section( standard )" had read access and my section was not listed. I edited the role and added the same rights (content, read) to "Section( mytest )". It worked for me.

Futhermore when I want to cancel changes made by "Assigning the News folder to the News section" by removing all sections made by me during this tutorial and removing the permissions asigned to anonymous user I am still unable to read the news.
