27 people from 7 different nationalities are now employed by eZ systems. The main office is in Skien, Norway and there is a development office in Odessa, Ukraine. eZ systems was founded in May 1999, in Kongsberg, Norway, by a group of today's employees. The company has a business model based on an open source core product, eZ publish. The dual licencing scheme, enable customers to choose between the GPL licence (open source and free) and a professional licence. eZ systems is able to have a scalable business from licence sales combined with the powers of the open source community.

Combined with the sales of commercial value added software products and professional services eZ systems has made a profit the last years and expect to continue to do the same in the future. Thus making sure the future development of eZ publish is supported, both by the large open source community and the professional dedicated developers of eZ systems.
