Ok, found it! (but not with the docs). Part of my confusion as a newbie is the poorly labeled objects: 'username' as labeled on login screens and user accounts vs registration where the 4 fields are First/Last Name, Userid, and Email. Through trial and error, it seems that userid OR email == username. Why not just ask for userid/email?
